Hannibal Barca famously led the Carthaginian Army through the Alps in the Second Punic War in order to launch an attack on Rome. He led a force of more than 30,000 soldiers, 15,000 cavalry, and 37 war elephants. The treacherous several-month journey became known as the "Alpine Crossing".
